Designed for both CNC milling and 3D engraving, the MDX-500 is the latest addition to Roland's proven line of 3D products. It is a heavy-duty milling machine with the power to handle a wide variety of materials and the precision to perform the most delicate of operations. AC Servo motors on each of the X, Y and Z axes make this machine a powerful and reliable performer in any machine shop, design office or sign shop.
Subtractive RP
Subtractive Rapid Prototyping (SRP) - starting with a solid object and removing unwanted material - has several advantages over traditional rapid prototyping. Significantly less expensive than rapid prototyping machines with the same resolution, SRP machines mill a wider range of materials that cost less and have no need for chemicals or post finishing work. Plus, they produce a superior finish.
CNC Software
Bundled with all Roland milling machines, the MODELA CAM software package accepts DXF and STL files exported from commercially available CAD/CAM software. The program allows for uniform 3D scaling, selection of milling direction and automatic generation and display of the tool path. Cutting depths and speeds are controlled from a predefined material library, or they can be set to user-defined specifications. The MODELA CAM software package is compatible with Windows 95/98/NT.
Materials
The MDX-500 mills ABS, chemical wood, modeling wax aluminum, brass and other non-ferrous metals.
Safety First
The MDX-500's emergency stop switch enables you to shut down the machine at the push of a button. An optional safety cover makes the cutting mechanism inaccessible during operation. It also prevents dust produced during the machining operation from entering the surrounding environment. This makes it possible to operate the MDX-500 even in an office environment.
Compatible
PICZA scans can be stored in DXF, STL, BMP, Grayscale (BMP), 3DMF and VRML file formats, so you can use them for a wide range of applications. You can make 3D objects with MODELA directly from PICZA's scan data, or edit it with computer graphics software first and then process it with MODELA for more advanced modeling.
Fast & Accurate
The MDX-500 and MDX-650 feature Feed Forward Processing (FFP) a predictive technology that anticipates tool path for greater accuracy, speed and energy efficiency. Roland has combined FFP technology with belt drives and digital AC Servo brushless motors on the X, Y and Z axes to generate high speed and high torque for smooth, steady milling.
Beauty and the Beast
With the high-torque spindle installed, the MDX-500PS becomes a rapid prototyping and mold-making machine for easily milling light metals like aluminum, brass and copper. Replace the high-torque spindle with a high-speed spindle and the MDX-500PS engraves names, logos and images in 3D on materials such as chemical wood or acrylic for signs and awards.
The Beast: 3D Modeling
With the high-torque spindle installed, the MDX-500PS easily mills light metals like aluminum, brass and copper for rapid prototyping and mold-making.
The Beauty: 2 & 3D Engraving
With the high-speed spindle installed, the MDX-500PS mills chemical wood, resins and acrylic for use as signs and awards.
